The exports of apparel and clothing accessories from the Southeast Asian nation of Indonesia grew marginally by 3.23 percent to US$ 6.2 billion in the first ten months of the current year, compared to exports of US$ 6.006 billion made during the corresponding period of last year, the data from Statistics Indonesia showed.

 

Knitted apparel and clothing accessories exports from Indonesia were valued at US$ 2.918 billion from January to October 2013, as against exports of US$ 2.871 billion made during the same period in 2012.

 

Similarly, exports of non-knitted apparel and clothing accessories from Indonesia stood at US$ 3.282 billion during the ten-month period under review, compared to exports of US$ 3.135 billion made during the comparable period in 2012.

 

Garments and apparel accessories exports accounted for more than five percent share in Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports during January-October 2013.

 

In October 2013, Indonesian knitted garments and apparel accessories exports declined by 18.6 percent to US$ 274.2 million, as against exports of US$ 292.8 million made in September 2013, according to ‘The Overview of Indonesian Export and Imports in October 2013’ released by Statistics Indonesia.

 

During the month, the exports of non-knitted garments and apparel accessories dropped by 1.4 percent month-on-month to US$ 304.1 million, the data showed.

 

Meanwhile, Indonesian cotton imports increased by 4.18 percent year-on-year to US$ 2.134 billion in the first ten months of 2013, compared to imports of US$ 2.048 billion made during the same period last year.

 

Registering a year-on-year fall of six percent, Indonesia’s textile and apparel exports for 2012 stood at US$ 12.6 billion, against 2011’s exports of US$ 13.2 billion. The Indonesian Textile Association (API) has set a target of US$ 13.4 billion for Indonesian textile and garment exports in 2013.
